Up and at em this morning, to make our way back to the train station to return to Copenhagen. Unfortunately, I buggered up, and convinced the other two, that the train in front of us, wasn't the right one...turned out it was, so we had to wait another hour or so...major oops!! Tracy and Suzie were very kind and didn't yell or scream.
We dropped our luggage at our last hotel, and grabbed a cab for the Changing of the guard at the Royal Palace (the home of Mary and Frederik and family).
We actually got caught BEHIND the guards, marching to the Castle. Our cabbie was brilliant and got us down a side street in time to see the action.
Here we are waiting for the train, not sure if it's the first one or second one! |
Into the cab and got a behind the scenes view of Guards marching to the Palace. |
They were making a getaway and we were worried we'd
miss the changing of the guards. |
But...we made it, I snuck around the crowd, and was lucky to
get a frontish spot, when they moved some ropes. |
We were busy watching the going's on, then it started to rain...quite heavily and suddenly. Thankfully I had my umbrella, not that I could use it right away.
Wet cobblestones, and the Guards marching straight at me. More pics on big camera. |
Good old Kathmandu, handy travel brolly. And the sun was shining again. |
Not quite big enough for three drowned rats. |
We headed off to find a dry warm place for a coffee and lunch.
Suzie. |
Tracy. |
Me. |
After our lunch or whatever it was, we went our separate ways, I was keen to find a Segway tour and Suzie and Tracy were off to a gallery/museum/shops...I think.
I had to make a booking, then make my way across town, and find the departure point.
First a quick overview, helmets with headsets to listen to the guide. |
Felt like I was about to get into the race with Herbie. |
Indoor practice, hoping that we wouldn't get wet on our 2 hour tour. |
The sun was shining most of the time. |
NB: a ring through the windows of the Nikolaj Kunsthal art space tower. |
Selfie's are tricky on a Segway, actually photos are tricky...full stop. |
One of the oldest deluxe hotels in the world. A favourite of Michael Jackson.
He asked to buy it several times, they wouldn't sell. |
Our guide, explaining something. |
The Marmorkirken (Marble Church) looks like a little Capitol building |
Back on the cobblestones of Amalienborg Palace. |
Behind me is the new power station, which in winter is used as
a ski slope. It is powered by waste to produce electricity and NOTHING nasty
comes out the chimney. Totally environmentally friendly. |
Yes, back at the Little Mermaid again. Check the crowds behind me
on the right and the tiny Little Mermaid above my right ear. |
These are the little houses, for the Royals to wait in to catch their yacht. One for them and one for their guest evidently. |
Ornate dragon holding the light. |
This sculpture was fake, made from foam. |
We were allowed to speed around on our Segways on Copenhagen
'beach'. This ramp, is actually the roof of an underground/water car
park. It has deck chairs for hire and people come and sit in the sun
and swim. The building in the back is the Opera House. |
and again, me with the Opera House |

The Group. |
Nyhavn, 17th Century waterfront, canal and entertainment area.
Very Popular. The buildings are painted similar to those in Bergen.
Very bustling part of the city. |
More Nyhavn. Which means new harbour I think. |
I recognised Bryan Brown. Advertisement for an Australian film in Copenhagen. |
Fire Hydrant |
Ornate bronze trumpeters. |
Soldier on the corner of building and Tivoli ride in the background... our next destination. |
We all returned to the Hotel, and headed off to the Tivoli Gardens, I wasn't sure what to expect, and it was well worth the visit. It is basically old gardens with a very old amusement park. It was getting later, and it looked like it would be OK by night too. So we found a bar had a drink and some bar snacks before doing another wander around after dark. Again well worth it.

Firewoman Tracy |

Tivoli manhole cover. |
The Lake in the Gardens |
Chinese themed section |
Vintage cars on a rail, the kids were loving it. |
Eek. Not my thing, but the rides look fantastic. |
Suzie taking the manhole cover...just another section of the TG. |
Sideshow mirrors, couldn't resist. |
Prefer this one. |
There was to be a show and fireworks later on in the night. I heard them from the hotel, and saw the reflected colours in our courtyard, but couldn't get a view of the sky itself unfortunately. |
A break for a drink and nibbles, to wait for a bit of darkness. |
Then back out for some more photos. |
After we were done with Tivoli Gardens, we found a place that had been recommended I think. It was cold and dark and the only table was outside, with blankets.
It's OK a drink will fix anything. It started to rain and thankfully, we could move tables to be more sheltered. |
All rugged up. Not quite warm though. This was our last supper together, Tomorrow we leave early and Tracy later in the day. |
