19.9.18. Copenhagen (Rosenberg Castle) to Odense
Up to pack prior to breaky next door again. Final departure tasks done at Airbnb - dishwasher, Rubbish out etc. Then the fun of arranging a cab with an answering machine which was a fail with our lack of ability with the language. We managed to find our way to the basement to avoid lugging our suitcases down steps, then Suzie accosted a bloke on the street (not a local) then a second one who kindly spoke to the cab company for us and arranged a cab.

Light at Central Station

Ticket machines and station.
Another manhole.

We are there

Selfie while we wait.
Guards keeping watch around the castle.

Quite a few school groups. These kids were younger - possibly kinder.

That’s a bust of Christian 4.

The famous loo. One of the first inside loos that emptied straight to the moat.

Walls lined with tapestry and other OTT stuff

A painting on the ceiling of an orchestra
The Homage of 1660. Painted by a deaf mute who painted himself into the picture, a little like where’s Wally. See close up below

Here is the painter

Just so much opulence.

The stairwell

Birdcage clock.

A musical cabinet. It played several times as we were walking through

This boat made by prisoners who made it from the bones left on their plates.

A beautiful garden beside the castle

Yep I was feeling a little like this.

Arrived at Central Station.

On the train. Some pics from window

The farming country we passed through.

Odense is on the Island of Funen. Here we are crossing some water.

G&T at First Grand Hotel.

A little old building.

This one was so crooked.

It was some Castle. Sooo much bling, everywhere. Heavy tapestries as wallpaper, murals, marble, glassware, ebony, ivory, gold, silver, amber, enamel, paintings, portraits, statues, gadgets and heaps of furniture and pieces from the Royals.
It was built by good ol Christian 4 as his weekender and summer palace - the party palace.
There were many Christians, Frederiks, Amalies, not too mention our very own Crown Princess Mary.

After making our way through the 20 odd rooms of the ground and first floors we made it to the Knights Hall on the second floor. It was running the full length of the building. Amazing ceilings and decorations. Housed the Coronations Chairs guarded by three silver lions. The chairs were built in the 1600’s but only used 7 times for coronations.

Beautiful stucco ceilings

One of the lions with Coronation seats behind.

The Danish coat of arms.

Then it was down to the basement which housed the treasury - including the Crown Jewels plus an amazing collection of weapons and armoury.

Christian 4 armour, note the silver elephants protecting the arms.

Guns and knives

A portrait.

Once were all ‘blinged’ out it was into the garden next door for a look before heading for a coffee and a train back to Central Station.

A lion guarding the entrance to the moat

Me and the castle

All of us and a very impressive Rosenborg Castle.

The garden and the castle

A bit of time for contemplation

Coffee time. Fox and Friends

Then it was time to collect our luggage and board the train for our next destination- Odense.

We have been asking how to pronounce Odense as we know there is a trick. We have asked about 6 or 7 different people how you say Odense. No two have pronounced it the same. We now think it’s something like Owe- en- suh.
Yep I was feeling a little like this.

Odense is on the Island of Funen. Here we are crossing some water.
We arrived around 4, a short taxi to Hotel - First Hotel Grand. An hour or so to phaff about then a quick drink before we are off exploring. I’d seen an ad for a Simon and Garfunkel show - so we checked out the tickets with no luck, so a look around then a visit to Theatre to see what we could learn.
Saw Hans Christian Andersen’s house and no Ticket avail tonight.

Then it was time to eat. Susie had the good oil on a food market, which was a bit of a walk and took us to a most unlikely area.

A pylon holding up bike and pedestrian overpass over the railway.

Cheers again. Another drink at the Food market.

Here is the food thing. It’s like food vans inside an old warehouse.

Front door.
We ate delicious burgers for tea with wine and cider. Then home to bed. After securing extra pillows I took the scenic route home through the Konference centre in Hotel.
